Trevor Hughes Obituary

Trevor Edward Hughes

May 2,1932 - June 14, 2023

Trevor was born in Chapelton, St. Ann, Jamaica. His father was a minister who arrived from Liverpool, England in 1925. His mother was of German descent born in Seaford Town, Westmoreland, Jamaica. Trevor was his parents second of two children; his sister was born 2 years earlier.

He attended Boarding Schools most of the time as a child. As a young man he rode his bicycle everywhere.  One of his first jobs was at Long Pond Sugar Estate in Clark's Town and he would ride his bicycle back and forth from home.

Later Trevor would move to Kingston where he met his first wife Hazel, he was 19 and she was 34. During the time they knew each other, he worked at Barclays Bank with his sister and one of his cousins. When he left there, he got a job at Imperial Optical.

Trevor and Hazel married in August 1956; their daughter Anne-Marie was born two days before their first anniversary.

He then became the factory manager at Hazel's family's factory, Farquharson Preserves. After leaving there he took a job at Worthy Park Sugar Estate in St. Catherine Parish. Soon after leaving, Trevor took a job at a Bauxite Mining Company in Ocho Rios.

Trevor left Jamaica for the USA via Canada, in the early 1970's. In New York he worked at a couple different Optical Companies till he settled at Sight & Style, where he met his second wife Daphney. He worked there till he retired in his 70's.

Trevor loved swimming, dogs and specially his High-Fidelity System. Having a great sounding sound system was very important to him his entire adult life. He treasured his music from LPs, cassette tapes, CDs & DVDs.

Trevor was preceded in death by his parents, Trevor and Annie, and his first wife Hazel.

Trevor is survived by his daughter, Anne-Marie (Patricia), his wife Daphney, her children, Roxanne, Sandra, Sharon, Andre, Shaun and O'Neil. Also Daphney's grandchildren and great grandchildren. His sister Myfanwy, his nieces Amanda and Patricia (Stuart), and daughter Madison.

On behalf of Trevor, I would like to thank all the Caregivers over the last couple years for caring for him.
