Rutha M. Barr

Obituary
Rutha M. Barr, born on April 6, 1940, in Florence County, South Carolina, passed away
on October 25, 2024, in Valley Stream, New York. Rutha was known for her strong spirit
and adventurous nature, qualities that defined her throughout her life. 
A passionate traveler, Rutha loved exploring the Caribbean, where she felt most at
home. She had a deep appreciation for Southern cuisine and spent many joyful hours
sewing and tending to her garden. Her love for jazz music often provided the soundtrack
to her vibrant life, reflecting her lively personality.
Rutha is survived by her beloved daughter, Samantha Barr Rice, and her cherished
grandchildren, Chance Richardson and Justian Joseph. She also leaves behind her
siblings: sister Janie M. White, brother Willie C. Barr, sister-in-law Maltona Barr, and
brother Henry Barr Jr. 
Rutha was a trailblazer who embraced challenges and fearlessly forged her own path.
Her legacy of courage and passion will continue to inspire those who knew and loved
her.
