Ruby Brown Obituary

Ruby Isadora Brown (nee Ruby Isadora Pencil) was born in Bye Grave, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies on October 28, 1931. Her parents were Clementina Hutchinson and Martel Pencil.

She went to school in Clarendon and became a teacher for a short while.

In 1953 while visiting her brother’s shop in Toll Gate, Clarendon, she met Clarence Brown who later became her husband in 1957. Their relationship lasted 70 years.

In 1957 Ruby attended a missionary crusade where she accepted the Lord as her personal savior and started her faith walk.

In 1964 Ruby and her husband moved their family from the parish of Clarendon to the parish of St. Catherine and settled in Spanish Town. In 1969 they later bought a house and moved to Twickenham Park Housing Scheme. They remained there until they transitioned to the U.S.A.

Ruby was the dear mother of Balfore, Claudeth, Garfield, Marcia, Angella, Maxine, Nadine and Suzette. She is preceded in death by her daughter Nadine, and all known siblings. She had 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Motherhood suited Ruby and despite having her hands full raising her own children, she found time to shelter and raise other children. While living in Jamaica, she taught adult and young adult Sunday school classes, evangelized and worked outside the home.

Over the years she held several government jobs in Jamaica and in 1985 she retired from her role as a Supervisor with the Ministry of Construction Housing, Kinston, Jamaica.

1n 1986 Ruby migrated to America. She worked in health care for a short while and sold Avon for 30 years. The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York became her church home and in 2003 she became a member. A woman of deep faith, baptized, Holy Ghost filled believer, Ruby shared the word of God to anyone she met and planted seeds of encouragement and upliftment to anyone who needed it. She was a mother who gave all of herself. She did her best. A true inspiration and a beautiful soul.

She loved fashion, beautiful bedding, and one of her favorite things was getting her back scratched!

Ruby passed away on Tuesday October 24, 2023, and is greatly missed.

Our hearts are forever missing you Ruby and our hope is to meet you in Heaven someday. Rest In Peace Ruby!

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
