Richard Paul Pohly was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 2, 1939. After his birth, the family moved to
Costa Rica due to his father’s job. They returned to the U.S. when he was five years old and settled in
Kew Gardens, NY. Later, he moved to Valley Stream, NY, where he spent the rest of his life.
Richard worked as an electrical engineer. He started as an electrical designer with Con Edison and then
worked for Singmaster & Breyer. After that, he moved to Laramore, Douglass and Popham as an
electrical engineer. When the New York office closed, he went to work at Expert Electric in Astoria,
remaining there until he retired at the age of 73.
He served as a Combat Engineer and Rifle M1 Expert in the Army National Guard for eight years and was
honorably discharged in 1970. Richard enjoyed hunting, shooting rifles and pistols at the range, playing
tennis, woodworking, and solving crosswords and sudoku puzzles.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Giselle, his son Rick, his daughter Kim Krestin, and his son-in-law,
David.
