Marie V. Chavannes
10/18/1959 - 07/11/2024
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Marie V. Chavannes
(Fouron), a beloved mother and woman of remarkable character, who tragically left
us on July 11th, 2024, at the age of 64. She passed, as she had wished, surrounded
by her loving children, Leonard and Olivia Chavannes. She was a woman
characterized by tenacity and hard work, one who made sure her children had
everything that they needed in life.
Born in Haiti, and the youngest of 8 siblings, she came to the United States on
January 25th, 1986, made a home for herself in Brooklyn, NY, and successfully
walked the long and arduous path to becoming a US citizen. In the year 2000, she
graduated from the Borough of Manhattan Community College and became a
Respiratory Therapist. She went on to work as such for 20 years, saving many
lives.
Marie was a wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed
her most, offering abundant support, wisdom, and love. A friend to many, and a
cherished neighbor in her community of Valley Stream, NY, she left behind a
legacy of kindness and strength.
Marie is predeceased by her parents, Arthur E. and Ananie Fouron (Colin), her
brother Edouard Fouron and her sister Nicole Fouron. She is survived by many of
her loving family: her children, Leonard and Olivia Chavannes, and their father,
Jean L. Chavannes. Her brothers, Yvan, Maurice, Georges, and Eddy Fouron, and
her sisters, Josette and Ketly Fouron. Her close friends Claudette Thomas and
Juliet Esan. She was, furthermore, a loving aunt to several nieces and nephews.
To commemorate her remarkable life, and the memories which she has left in our
hearts to cherish, a burial service will be held at Greenfield Cemetery on Friday,
July 26th at 10:30 am. We welcome all who knew her to join us in celebrating the
life of a mother who was deeply loved and will be missed beyond the capacity of
any words to express.
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It
does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
