“Fill not your hearts with sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow.”
Kevin Paul Serrano was born at NYU Hospital on November 30, 1991, and passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by love and held in the hearts of all who cherished him.
Kevin was a beautiful soul. He was handsome, bright, and full of a warmth that lifted the spirits of everyone he met. From childhood, his life was filled with energy, curiosity, and joy. He played soccer and baseball when he was young, later taking up lacrosse in high school, although volleyball quickly became his favorite. His teammates affectionately called him “Fuzz,” lovingly teasing him for the perfectly straight hair that always stood up no matter what he did.
Academically, Kevin was gifted and hardworking. He excelled in mathematics, proudly representing his school in Mathlete competitions. His dedication and brilliance earned him an academic scholarship to the University at Buffalo for Pharmacy before his heart called him to follow his mother’s path into Nursing. Helping others was not just something Kevin did, it was who he was. His compassion, patience, and sense of purpose guided him in everything.
Even as a child, Kevin’s goodness shone brightly. In 6th grade, he received his school’s Top Character Award, an early sign of the integrity and kindness he carried throughout his life. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and consistently achieved High Honor Roll, a reflection of both his intelligence and his extraordinary work ethic.
Kevin was also a remarkably talented performer. He played the piano and trumpet, sang in the school chorus, participated in NYSSMA musical competitions, and brought joy to the stage with a lead singing role in the school musical. His gifts were recognized early, and he was recruited by the performing arts departments of the local junior high and high schools, where he performed side by side with his sister. These are moments his family will hold in their hearts forever.
Those who knew Kevin will never forget his joyful spirit, his playful humor, and the way he could make any room brighter just by being in it. His favorite song to line dance to was “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire, a song which embodied the fun, laughter, and light he brought into the world.
Beyond academics, sports and the arts, Kevin loved being active and took great pride in his first job at the pretzel store in the local mall. Whether he was on stage, in class, at work, or with his family, Kevin approached everything with dedication, humility, and a rare willingness to give of himself. He went above and beyond for the people he loved, especially his big sister, whom he supported through every major move and life transition. He was the kind of brother who showed up every single time, with love, strength, and no hesitation.
During his time in the Philippines, Kevin often reflected on how fortunate he felt and how deeply he wished to help others. “I didn’t know people needed so much… they are really less fortunate here, and I want to help them,” he once said. This sentiment perfectly captured his generous heart. He was the first to volunteer in covering shifts at the hospital, caring for the sick, babysitting, and helping his friends and family move. And of course, nothing made him happier than tinkering with his car, truck, and motorcycle.
Kevin had a heart that cared deeply and sincerely. His life was a blessing filled with love, talent, humor, and he will always be remembered for the joy he brought, the compassion he gave so freely, and the beautiful legacy of love he leaves behind.
He will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever ours.
