Jeannine Dalencour Obituary

Jeannine Lescloufair Dalencour was born on December 14, 1930, in Port au Prince, Haiti. The daughter of Francine Lescloufair(deceased). Jeannine met her late husband, Felix, in 1955. They married on October 10, 1959. From their union came four children, Gessie, Lesly, Chantal, and Djénane. In 1967, Jeannine left Haiti, leaving her four children behind with family, to pursue a better life for her family in the United States. Her journey in the United States began in Florida, then New Jersey where Felix reunited with her. They both worked and made many sacrifices in preparation for their children to join them in Queens, New York in 1968. Shortly after, they fulfilled their American dream by purchasing a home in November of 1968. Jeannine was a pioneer for the women of the family. She could make a dollar out of 50 cents and was the ultimate saver. In the 1970s, when women were given the right to open a bank account without a signature from their husband, Jeannine was determined to be first in line as well as to get a credit card. At that time, most women with children did not work, but she did. Although a traditionalist in her values, Jeannine believed that women should be able to function independently even in marriage. She learned to drive and bought her own car; but never drove after that, it was on principal because she could. Jeannine was full of wit, independence, and fortitude. She led by example and encouraged those around her to get their education because she believed that was the foundation to independence. Her legacy lives on through many of us with the wisdom, love, grace, and compassion she shared. From the way she stood tall, proud and walked with faith to her pioneering spirit, these are all things that will be remembered.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, God called Jeannine home. Jeannine leaves to celebrate her life: her daughter Gessie Dalencour, son Lesly Dalencour and his wife Suze, daughter Chantal Dalencour, daughter Djénane Dalencour-Murray and her late husband David, her grandchildren Whaseka Horne, Mario Horne and his wife Leneisha, Danielle Everette, Natasha Blaise (deceased), Chantal Murray, Lelio Dalencour, Christopher Dalencour, Adonai Henderson and his wife Bethany, Djénane Murray, Deneé Dalencour, Elie Helix and Charlie Dalencour; her great-grandchildren Genevieve Horne, Charlotte Everette, Amelia Everette, Meya Horne, Zionna Horne (deceased), Nehemiah Horne, Langston Everette, Gabriel Dalencour, Maeve Henderson, Xavier Horne, Jocelyn (Josie) Henderson and Zhen Loet; her brother Antonie Cameau(deceased), sister Yolande Gilles and husband Esdrass; sister Lydie Dure (deceased) and widowed husband Michel; her aunt and uncle Eugene and Edith Gourdain, their children(her siblings), Loudres, Myrlande, Claudette, Paulette, Fennel, Gladys, Gerald, Jean, Micheline, Yolene, their spouses and children; her nephew Gerson Gilles, niece Daphne Gilles and her daughter, nephew Rodney Dure, his wife Jennifer and their children; niece Michelle Chavis, her husband Gregory and their sons, bonus family Erika Geiss, her husband Doug and their children; and a host of cousins and friends.
