It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, James Bernard
Colgan, Jr. who left us on June 26, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Jimmy, as he was lovingly called by his family and friends, was born on July 8, 1948 to James
B. Colgan and Jane M. Colgan (nee Conroy) in Jamaica, New York. He grew up in Valley
Stream, N.Y. where he attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Valley Stream
Central H.S. He later relocated to Hope Mills, N.C.
Jimmy was a dedicated fan of the Yankees and the Jets. His love of all sports & music brought
him and many lucky young companions on road trips to concerts & games far and wide. Jimmy
always “showed up” for family events…going the extra mile for all he loved.
He is survived by his son Raymond, grandchildren Damian & Amaya, nine siblings
John (Beverly), Jane, Bob (Cathy), Maureen McCormick (Rich), Kathleen Cunningham (Mike),
Joanie Koenig (Mike), Mary Ellen Orr (Donald), Andy (Mary), and Bill (Mary), many loving
cousins & lots of nieces and nephews and by Barbara-Ann Garaventa, his former wife and
caregiver.
Jimmy will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Lieber Funeral Home in Valley Stream, NY on
Sunday June 30th from 4-7 p.m. and Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, Valley
Stream, NY 10 a.m. Monday, July 1st.
