Hedwig passed peacefully after a brave fight with cancer on Friday, May 31, 2024. She was a resident of Valley Stream since 1961. Hedwig was born in Ingstetten, Germany on August 22, 1929 to Markus and Josefa.
She loved her late husband Alfred, her two sons Edward and Steven, her daughter in law Adele, and her three grandsons Vincent, Matthew, and Alex.
A headstrong and independent woman, Hedwig maintained her independence for her 94 extraordinary years with us. A talented manicurist, she remained employed well into her 80s doing what she loved. She found joy in gardening and sharing her yields with her loved ones, and was a ruthless Bingo and Rummikub player, both at the senior center where she created many strong friendships, and with her family. Hedwig was an avid baker and her Strawberry Shortcake recipe was loved by all. Above all, Hedwig loved spending time with her family at holidays, or just relaxing and catching up. She was dearly loved by her family. Hedwig and her positive outlook on life and steadfast support of her loved ones will be missed dearly.
