Gessy Michel Fils-Aime was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on December 12, 1947, to the
late Paule Drouillard and the late José Michel, Sr. She passed away peacefully on
Friday, April 4, 2025. She is leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication.
Gessy was always full of life and love. She had the most amazing smile, which warmed
the hearts of all who knew her. In 1965, Gessy, along with the rest of her family, moved
to New York after her brother and mother had preceded them to America. A graduate of
George Washington High School, Gessy embarked on a successful career at Citibank,
where she worked from 1968 until her retirement in 1996.
In 1961, Gessy met and later married the love of her life, the late Philippe Fils-Aime.
Their union was blessed with many cherished moments and memories. She was known
for hosting numerous family gatherings in her backyard, which helped keep the family
connected.
A devoted member of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, Gessy was a
beacon of faith and kindness in her community, always striving to live by her favorite
statement, "God is good." She professed her faith in God and acknowledged that her
sins were forgiven.
Gessy was preceded in death by her brother, José Michel Jr.; her sister, Mona Michel
Brea; and her brother-in-law, Guy Brea.
Gessy leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Mireille, and her husband, Harold; her
brother, Erick, and his wife, Naomi; and her sister, Marie José, and her husband, Henns.
Gessy also leaves behind nieces and nephews Richard, Harold Jr., Philippe (Tanya),
Christina (Jason), Nakia, Phenize (Shanae), and Erick Jr. (Lormisha), along with great-
nieces and nephews Kevin, Kyle, Philippe Michael, Emma, Louis, Destinee, and
Erickson. Her godchildren, Erick, Aiden, and Natasja, will also fondly remember her as a
loving Christian figure. She leaves behind many other relatives and friends, including
her longtime colleague and friend, Desiree.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will be remembered for her
unwavering faith, her compassionate heart, and her dedication to her loved ones.
May Gessy's soul rest in eternal peace.
