George Bacon Obituary

George Bowman Bacon, 94, passed away on October 17th, 2025, at the Oceanside Care Center
where he had been a resident for two years.
George was the only child of Harold and Margaret Bacon. Three weeks after his birth, his father
passed away. In 1933, his mother married James Adams, whose last name George took in his
honor for years. Through their union, George became the older half-brother to Barbara, Beverly,
and Stephen. He went to W.C. Mepham High School in Bellmore, New York, and he enlisted in
the Navy where he served for nine years.
George met his future wife, Marilyn Ethel Wandell, at an event for their high school bands. They
married in 1953. The Bacons moved to South Carolina and Florida before finding their
permanent residence in a house down the street from Marilyn’s parents in Valley Stream, New
York. George worked for his father-in-law at his printing company.
The couple welcomed two children, George Bowman Bacon, Jr. and Karen Ann Bacon. Marilyn
and George returned to the church where they married, Holy Trinity in Valley Stream, and they
remained active parishioners there until the pandemic in 2020. They celebrated their 69th
wedding anniversary before Marilyn passed away in January, 2022.
George was an avid photographer with a special focus on lighthouses and naval ships. In his
retirement years, he volunteered at the Fire Island Lighthouse. He and Marilyn were also collie
breeders, and they even entered into dog shows.
George is survived by his two children, George Bacon, Jr. and Karen Pajonas; their spouses,
Judy Hyatt Bacon and Victor Pajonas, Sr; his sister, Barbara; and his brother-in-law, George
Wandell; and his sister-in-law, Ann. He is called “grandpa” by Robert, Katherine, Nicole, Cheryl,
Sarah, and Selina; and “great-grandpa” or “G-Pa” by Eddy, Tommy, Gage, Austin, Josh,
Alexandria, Jeremy, Dante, Ashlyn, Kai, Tysean, Kevin, Archie, Emily, Carter, Rani, Reggie,
Brianna, Kelly, Sophia, Julia, Lucy, and Booker. George is a great-great-grandfather to Piper and
to a child due in 2026. He was also a devoted uncle, granduncle, and great-granduncle.
