Fred Anthony Izzo, 96 years old, of Valley Stream, NY, left this world peacefully on December 1, 2025. Born in Manhattan in humble surroundings to Italian immigrants Pasquale and Camille and the youngest of 11 children, he took to heart his father’s belief in the power of hard work and education to change lives, serving over 40 years as an elementary-school teacher, vice principal, and principal. Fred was the loving husband of Josephine (who predeceased him), father of four, grandfather of seven, and great-grandfather of six.
He passed on his love of learning and travel “wanderlust” to his children, Karen Karle (married to Eric), Kathleen Izzo, Stephen Izzo (married to Sharon), and Richard Izzo, taking them and his loving wife Josephine, also a school-teacher, on vacation to places all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He and Josephine, in their later years, saw even more of the world during the many cruises they took to places in Europe and Asia. Fred also served his country dutifully as a medic in the Korean War—a campaign from which many of his Army brothers sadly did not return.
Fred Anthony Izzo is now back in the loving arms of The Lord and his wife Josephine, whom he missed dearly these past several years. He left his imprimatur of strength, optimism, and hope on all those he touched, and he will be missed terribly until we see him and Josephine again.
