Doris Olsen Obituary

Doris Jeanne Olsen was born September 3, 1948 at Jamaica Hospital to Dorothy and William Dassau. During her junior years she attended school at Blessed Sacrament. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated her free time to helping her church with various projects throughout the years. She graduated in 1966 from Stella Maris High School.  She went to work at Bayside Federal Savings and Loans bank as a notary.  Doris met her soulmate, David in 1977 and they married in April 1978. They chose to focus on having a family. With much prayer, determination and faith, their prayers were answered. In 1981 God had placed a daughter for them in Honduras, which they joyfully went to meet and bring home. Four years later they were blessed once again when God led them to Columbia to unite with and bring home their new son. With their family complete she became a devoted, loving, kind, nurturing and patient mother. She always took great pride in her children's accomplishments. When her daughter became a mother herself and then chose to get married right out of high school, Doris watched her daughter walk down the same aisle in the same church she did, with nothing but happiness, joy and hope. While she supported her daughter in this new chapter of her life, what made her life extra special was becoming a grandmother. Just when I thought I had seen all the wonderful traits in my mom, she just poured all this extra love she had and was so gentle and attentive as her new role of grandma/ me-ma. A few years later her son would marry his high school sweetheart, Stephanie and more grandchildren were soon to follow. Towards the end of her life she began to slow up but her 6 grandchildren continued to keep her young at heart. She lived for her family and we all adored her as our angel here on Earth. Though we are all devastated by this sudden loss, we know with confidence that she is in a better place surrounded by the light, love and comfort she resignated on to all of us who were blessed enough to have known her. On September 24, 2022, she earned her wings as God took her hand, and they walked together, leaving behind her walker and wheelchair as they entered into Heaven. Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father Dorothy and William Dassau as well as her sister Arlene and brother Richard. She is survived by her husband David Olsen, her daughter Jeanne Greener, her son William Olsen and wife Stephanie Olsen and all 6 of her grandchildren, Shane, Evan, Isabella, Lennon, Giovanni and Deston. She also leaves behind many friends and family who enriched her life in the same way she enriched ours.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
