Donald J. Morhardt

Donald J. Morhardt, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday December 21, 2023 in West Babylon, NY. Donald was born and grew up in the Bronx, NY. He resided in Valley Stream, NY for most of his life, where he raised his family before moving to West Babylon earlier this year.

Donald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, retiring after a lifetime of service.

After retiring, he spent winters with his beloved wife Julia in Cape Coral, Florida at a spot called the Sandoval that they both loved. Don loved fishing, golfing and reading. 

He enjoyed his family tremendously and very much appreciated life in general. His contagious warm smile and laughter will be sorely missed.

Donald is survived by his loving wife Julia Morhardt(Gassmann) of 60 years, and his five adoring children John Morhardt (Clair) of Lindenhurst, NY; Susan Calamusa of Merrick, NY; Cathy Leone of Farmingdale, NY; Michael Morhardt (Andrea) of Morristown, NJ; and Laura Lucchi (Anthony) of Massapequa, NY. 

Predeceased by his brother Charles, Donald was a wonderful and proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Nicholas, Deanna, Joseph, Justin, Samantha, Anthony, Daniella, Caroline, Michael, Brian and Andrew and two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Jayden.

A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday December 26 from 5-9pm (playing of Taps 7:30pm) at Edward F. Lieber Funeral Home, 266 North Central Avenue in Valley Stream, NY.
