Clarence Brown Obituary

Clarence Vincent Brown was born in Harewood, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies on March 22, 1933. He was the only child for both parents, mother Ethlyn Taylor and father Wilfred Brown.

At a young age he left the countryside. He started working at 14 years old in construction and because of his willingness to work hard he stuck the job. He eventually worked with LC McKenzie Jamaica Limited as a heavy equipment operator driving tractors and excavating machines. His job took him all over the country involved in the development of roads and housing complexes.

In 1953 he met his wife Ruby Pencil in Four Paths (Toll Gate), Clarendon. They got married in 1957 and settled in Milk River, Clarendon. In 1964 he moved his family from Clarendon to Spanish Town, St. Catherine and they later moved to their own house in Twickenham Park Housing Scheme. He remained married to Ruby for 70 years until she preceded him in death in 2023. His daughter Nadine also preceded him in death.

He leaves behind children Balfore, Claudeth, Garfield, Marcia, Angella and Maxine. He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the mid 1980’s Clarence migrated to America but his love for his birth country was strong. Even though he had transitioned to New York and had a job he was always looking for an opportunity to do business in Jamaica. At one point buying cows for a startup and at another point gaining a Quarry license to mine limestones.

Clarence truly loved being outdoors. He would plant crops, trees and flowers and anything he put in the soil would flourish. Always dependable with strategies so his children and grandchildren could play. Making swings and hammock in the backyard, putting up baseball hoop and making bicycles wheels come to life without functioning inner tubes for temporary play.

He confessed Christ in his later years and had been walking in faith ever since.

He loved people and animals, and almost everyone would be introduced as family.

He took pride in his dressing and was always well attired even when he was casual all the way to his elderly age.

Clarence passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 and is greatly missed.

Rest in peace Clarence!
