Carmine Desio Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Carmine Joseph Desio, 88, of Malverne NY. He passed from his earthly home to his eternal home on Dec. 7, 2023.

Carmine was born on Jan. 22, 1935 to Cono and Jenny Desio in Greenpoint, NY.  After graduating from Bishop Loughlin High School he was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Brooklyn Polytechnic University in 1954.  As a Civil Engineer, he enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers and was most proud of his work on the Greenbriar Bunker in West Virginia.

In 1955 Carmine met Isabelle and they were married in 1960.  Together they raised three sons - Glenn (Cindy), Stephen (Liana), and Donald (Karen).

Upon completion of his military service, he entered private industry at Tynan Engineering as a general contractor/project engineer for various municipal waste incinerators in the greater NY area. In addition he was the co-founder of Environmental Laboratories leading the efforts to measure and document air pollution in the greater NY area.

Upon retirement from his chosen profession, he began his second career as an educator working as an adjunct professor in the Civil Engineering Department of Nassau Community College.  He was extremely proud of his 5 star rating on ratemyprofessor.com.

In his spiritual life, Carmine walked closely with the Holy Spirit.  He taught  Catholic catechism classes for many years for Holy Name of Mary Church.  In addition, he volunteered at their Food Pantry, was a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very involved in Mission outreach as well working with underprivileged nations such as Benin and Nigeria bringing well water to drought starved people.

Carmine was predeceased by his parents, Cono & Jenny, his brother John, and his sister Marie who are all in Heaven welcoming him. He is survived by his wife Isabelle, his sister Helen, his three sons & their wives, and his 7 grandchildren - Peter, Daniel (Holiday), Alex, Olivia, Kaitlyn. Rose, & Michael.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
