Arit J. Ekpo

Arit Johnson Ekpo, age 67, went home to his Lord Sunday, September 18, 2021.

Dr. Arit Ekpo was born November 23rd, 1953 in Nsit Ubium LGA, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. She was born to the family of Sunday Udo. Unfortunately, she became an orphan at a very young age. She was raised by her grandmother while in elementary school and subsequently moved to Calabar, Cross Rivers State where she lived with her uncle and then completed her secondary education. Upon completion of her secondary education, she relocated to USA to further her higher education where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia, and her Master’s Degree at The University of Alabama. She later returned to Nigeria and obtained her Doctorate Degree from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Nigeria. She has also made tremendous impact by coaching and supervising students at UNIUYO for 26 years in the Department of Biochemistry. She has published numerous articles in line of her academic background and achieved the highest academia ranking, Professor. 

She met her husband, Late Dr. Johnson Ekpo, while pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree.  They were married in 1977. The marriage was blessed with three children. She is survived by her two daughters -(Ekaete , Itorobong) and a son -(Ekwere), eight grandchildren, two brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and host of relations.
