Anna May (Wieczorek) Peers was born on May 5, 1924, to Joseph and Edith Wieczorek. First described by Edith M, her mom, as “the little lady with brown hair and blue eyes, also the smartest and prettiest baby in the hospital, even though she arrived 20 days ahead of schedule.” She graduated from Daughters of Wisdom Academy and went to work in the Brooklyn Navy yard as a secretary. She then met the love of her life; George Peers and they married in September 1949. They moved to the family home in Valley Stream in December 1952. Being the only child, she wanted more children. She was blessed with seven children: George, Joseph, Anne, William, Daniel, John, and James. She devoted her time raising her seven children. Even as a busy wife and mother, she found time to volunteer at Blessed Sacrament Church, and was a volunteer Librarian at the elementary school as well. Son William passed in 1973. Husband George passed in 2009. She is the grandmother of ten and great grandmother of one.
She enjoyed great times with neighbors at Knights of Columbus parties, as well as block parties and Christmas caroling. As the children were growing up, many Easter breaks from school were spent in the family station wagon traveling down to Florida. Peers’ family Christmas parties in Ozone Park were also a great source of fun. Snow days would give her the opportunity to pile kids into the car with sleds in search of a great day sleigh riding. Taking kids to sports practices and games also rounded out a busy schedule.
When her grandchildren came along, she enjoyed spending time with them and making many holiday memories as well. Whether it was a family trip to Ocean City, little league games, school concerts and plays, she made sure she was ever-present. She loved receiving calls and updates throughout the years from her grandchildren and great grandchild. She was proud of all of her grandchildren, their spouses, and her great granddaughter.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses, ten grandchildren and their spouses, and one great grandchild.
She will be very dearly missed by all.
