Ann Scanlon nee Shaughnessy was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 6, 1933. Her parents were Irish Immigrants Michael and Rose. Her twin brother was Francis “Frank” and her sister was Mary Shaughnessy Horan. Ann attended and graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in 1951, and was a secretary in New York City. Ann married Raymond Scanlon. They lived in Rockaway Beach, Queens NY and then moved to the suburbs, living in the Village of Hempstead, Nassau County. The marriage produced Robert and Thomas. The marriage ended in the mid-1970s and Ann became a hard working single mother. Ann relocated to Franklin Square in 1980 with Thomas and then eventually moved to Valley Stream. Ann lived in Monica Village Senior Housing for over 23 years. She loved the community residents, activities, staff of Monica Village, and its close proximity to Blessed Sacrament RC Church, the Valley Stream pool and the local shops. Ann was independent, still driving her vehicle at 88 years of age to carry out local errands and visits to the pool. Ann leaves behind Robert (Patricia) Scanlon, Thomas (the late Maryellen) Scanlon and grandchildren Thomas Matthew, Ryan Patrick and Shannon Scanlon. Ann also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, Grand nieces and nephews, cousins and extend family who will miss her taking photos at family gatherings. Ann was adventurous, curious and appreciative and loved life to the fullest.
