Ann Romano
It is with a heavy heart, which will take a long time to heal as we mourn the sudden demise of Ann Romano. She was an exceptional Mother to her son, Robert. He never left her side while she was in the hospital. He loves her so, so much!
Ann was the youngest of 5 children along with her twin brothers, Paul and Louis (Louis passed away in 1997) and sisters, Marie and Helen. She had an aggressive form of esophageal cancer which quickly spread throughout her body.
Ann loved horses. Every Saturday, Ann and her sisters, Marie and Helen would wake up early (about 5am) and drive with our Dad to Belmont racetrack to help with feeding the horses there. Afterwards, if we were lucky, we would have the opportunity to ride the horses around the track. This was the “high” of our day!
When you grow up in the city, it’s not often you have the opportunity to experience what was a “BIG” part of our childhood. One vivid memory we had on Saturday at Belmont, was with one of the meanest and aggressive racehorses named Ivanhoe, escaped from his stall. In a split second, Ann and her sisters were pushed into an empty stall until all was safe and sound! It was an experience none of us would forget.
She was funny, sassy, and had a way of making anyone she met, feel as if she knew them a long time. That was Ann’s legacy! In honoring her wish, she will be cremated! I’m certain right now she is smiling down on all of us saying: “Don’t worry about me, wipe your tears away, I’m finally at peace! Yada! Yada!”
