Although his career took him around the world for months at a time, Alexander James Clark, Jr.’s heart never truly strayed from Long Island. The only son amongst his beloved three sisters Pat, Maureen, and Terry; Al (“Allie”) was raised in Valley Stream, where he would reside until his death. Impressing as a young baseball star during his teenage years before pursuing a career in the Merchant Marines, Al would travel to ports all over the globe, eventually obtaining his Captain’s license. In 1973, he married sweetheart Jean Hoffman, whom he would remain with until her passing in 2010. Together they had four children and Al shared with them, to varying degrees of success, his passions of sports, history, animals, and gardening. The addition of granddaughters Emily and Kaylee provided a joyful presence as they lived with “Papa” in his later years. Once he discovered e-mail, Al was constantly keeping in touch with his extended relatives, always reminding them of family that was no longer with us, a company whose presence he now enriches.
