Agnes Mary Valerio, aka, Aggie, of Valley Stream, Long Island passed away January 7th after
succumbing to colon and stomach cancer at the age of 90.
Agnes was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Gus and Margaret Bellucci, and the older sister
to Constatine, (affectionately known to Agnes as ‘Brother’, who recently passed away a week
earlier). After graduating from Hunter College in Manhattan Agnes married Paul Valerio in April
of 1956 who met at a local church dance in Brooklyn 2 years earlier. That was the beginning of a
67+year marriage.
While raising 4 children Agnes began a career as a kindergarten teacher that not only helped
support her family during recession times but enriched the lives of everyone she taught, worked
with, or had met in every aspect of life. Agnes was a kindergarten teacher until retiring at the age
of 71.
Agnes and Paul lived in Brooklyn until 1966 when the family moved to Valley Stream. A home
where Agnes and Paul lived until Paul’s passing in 2021. With the house being a little too much
for Agnes to take care of alone she sold the house and bought a condo in Valley Stream where
she lived until her passing.
As the children grew up Paul and Agnes were a constant fixture at all school events. And this
routine continued with attending the grandchildren’s school events and activities no matter what
state the children lived in. It was rumored that Agnes always had a suitcase packed under the bed
so that she would be ready to travel with her children and/or grandchildren at a moment’s notice.
Agnes didn’t want to miss anything that was happening with her family.
Agnes will always be remembered as a mother figure to many and best friend to many. She will
be remembered for the ‘Aggie Specials’, the name given to the constant supply of sandwiches
that were always in the refrigerator for her children and the friends of her children who came to
visit.
She was one of a kind. She will always be remembered and never forgotten. She touched the
heart of everyone he met.
Agnes is survived by 3 sons, Anthony, John and Andrew, and a daughter, Clare. As well as 13
grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
