Rosanna Clavin passed away on Sunday November 18, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Rosanna Virginia McMahon was born in Brooklyn to Rose Ethel and John McMahon. She was a proud sister of her young brother John (who predeceased her by 13 days). Rosanna went off to SUNY New Paltz to became a teacher. After moving with her family to Valley Stream, she would meet the love of her life, Donald X. Clavin.
Rosanna and Donald married and bought a home in Valley Stream where she taught at many schools but had her most memorable experience at Our Lady of Peace in Lynbrook. They had five children Mary (Rob), Virginia (Kevin), Deidre (John), Donna (Joe) and Donald II (Nancy). After finishing her teaching career, she joined Facilities Development Corporation, a New York state agency dedicated to find facilities and housing for persons with disabilities.
Rosanna was a trailblazer for her times. She was the first from her family to graduate from college, a working mother and the first female Trustee for the Village of Valley Stream (her daughter would follow in her footsteps 24 years later.) She was a role model for her child as two became teachers, two became elected officials and one worked for a non-profit helping the disadvantaged.
In retirement, Rosanna enjoyed volunteering with a number of groups and being Grammy to her 11 grandchildren.
Rosanna loved her family, politics and a good day of shopping.
