George A. Hayden was surrounded by his family as he passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2018, in St. Augustine, Florida. George was born in Brooklyn on February 7, 1930, he was 88 yrs old. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Emma Hayden; and brother to the late Lawrence Hayden, Daniel Hayden and James Hayden. He is survived by his brother Kevin Hayden.
George served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a proud New York City Police Officer for over 25 years. Besides his family, George loved the horses. It was a Hayden tradition to have family gatherings at Belmont Racetrack with his brothers and their families. His other passions were his love for the New York Yankees and NY Giants.
During a Brooklyn Dodger game he proposed to the love of his life, Philomena Morrongiello and they married on October 8th, 1955. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Philomena; daughter Mary Ann and her husband Victor Mearini of St. Augustine; son, George and his wife Robin of Marietta, GA; son Lawrence and his wife Gina of Valley Stream, NY; son Anthony and his wife Anne of Newport Richey, FL. and daughter Phyllis and husband John Morley of St. Augustine, FL and daughter-in-law Nellie Hayden of Lynbrook, NY. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, CO Victor Mearini, Brian Mearini, Bernadette DeGarmo, Timothy Mearini, Lawrence Hayden CPA., Nicholas Hayden, Joseph Hayden PE, NCPD Ofc., Ryan Hayden , George Hayden, Dr. Jimmy Hayden, CBP Ofc. Thomas Morley, Kaitlin Oliver, James Hayden and Bryana Hayden. George was blessed with ten great- grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, James, and Charleigh Hayden, Jaxon Oliver, Gavin and Mason DeGarmo, Matthew Mearini, Guile Aceron Mearini and Emerson Hayden as well as many nieces and nephews.
George was a devout Catholic and was never without his rosary. Even when he was on the job as a NYPD Officer he carried his rosary in his pocket. So it is appropriate that his life will be celebrated on September 8th, the birthday of the Blessed Mother Mary.
