Eugenia Malcolm Obituary

Eugenia Betty Malcolm, (formally McQueen) - Mother, grandmother and friend that we all loved and will forever cherished, passed away peacefully on February 20th, 2019.

Our Mom was born on December 24, 1945 in Stokes Hall, Jamaica W.I., to the late Pearlena Abrahams and Allen Augusto, she was the eldest of four siblings. Most of her life was spent in Kingston, Jamaica where she met and married Rudolph Malcolm in 1968, but later divorced.

Mom devoted her life to solely raising her children, it was difficult at times, but Mom was strong, determined, fiercely independent and feisty…and so naturally we made it!

In 1996 mom migrated to the US where she worked as a Nursing Aide attendant until her health conditions made it impossible. To her family she was a renowned cook, with a special flair for making the best ‘fried dumplings’. She also had an inherent love for gospel music.

The values, good manners, respect and sound morals our mom taught us as children holds us steadfast today. We fondly remember how she would warn us by simply quoting one of many Jamaican proverbs, two of her favorites were “Chicken merry, hawk deh near”, and “What sweet nanny goat ago run eeh belly”. They may not have made sense to us then, but they sure do today. Especially in times where we’ve found ourselves repeating them to our own children.

Saying goodbye is never easy but we know that our Mom is at peace. Our lasting memories of our Mom is simply that of a hard worker, a great cook and a figure of strength who soldiered on, even when times were tough. Our mom fought a good fight for the past four years. Mom’s unwavering faith in God remained with her to the very end. Mom’s life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse Psalm 91 v. 1 - “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” And in this we find comfort that she is peacefully resting in the arms of the almighty.

Eugenia is survived by her son, Lloyd O. Phillips; daughters Norma Marie Aitcheson; Christine Malcolm, Vivienne Malcolm-Powell and Shellita Malcolm; grandsons Jason Grant, Patrick Williams, David McCalla, Alexander Powell, Kyle Powell, Tyler Powell and Shandon Mith; granddaughters Phylicia Grant, Stephanie Grant and Gabrielle Phillips. Her sister Patricia Allen, ex-husband Rudolph Malcolm, loving daughter and sons-in-law also survive her.
